Why Flatwater?

In paddling, “flatwater” refers to calm, still environments like lakes and reservoirs.

It’s the most approachable way to get on the water:

  • No waves

  • No strong currents

  • No heavy boat traffic

That makes it perfect for beginners—and still incredibly rewarding for experienced paddlers looking for a peaceful escape.

OUR STORY

Flatwater Paddle began with a simple realization.

While living in Greenwood Lake, founders Chaz and Theresa saw how difficult it was for everyday people to access the water. Between private beach clubs, expensive boats, and the hassle of owning equipment, most people were effectively shut out.

Chaz, working in fiberglass repair, started fixing paddleboards and saw an opportunity. What if getting on the water could be simple? Affordable? Open to everyone?

He launched the first rentals on Greenwood Lake.

Theresa joined soon after, bringing structure, organization, and a vision for growth. Together, they shifted operations into New Jersey State Parks focusing on calmer, more accessible waterways like Monksville Reservoir.

From there, Flatwater Paddle grew into what it is today: a trusted, professional, and welcoming way for people to reconnect with nature.
